Ste-Anne-de-Prescott Anaerobic Digester Committee

University of Ottawa

Dr. Marc Dube and Dr. Andre Tremblay, two professors in the University of Ottawa department of Chemical Engineering, invented an innovative new form of membrane biodiesel reactor that they realized had good commercial potential.

Arborus Consulting was brought in to help take the technology from the proof of concept lab scale into the real world. Working closely with the professors, graduate students and university staff over the course of a year we were able to obtain a patent on the process and sell the rights to a company that is currently building a pilot biodiesel plant using this new technology.

BioQuebec

Two successful farmers from an area south of Montreal wanted to diversify their operations and invest in a biofuels project. They were interested in ethanol and biodiesel and brought in Arborus Consulting to help perform a feasibility study of the biodiesel option. Based on this study they chose biodiesel as preferable to ethanol and they again engaged Arborus to investigate biodiesel plant vendors, recommend which vendors to work with and get firm cost information from those vendors that they can bring to the bank to obtain financing.

Berkeley Biodiesel Collective

Daniel has been an active member of this all volunteer grass roots biodiesel organization since 2002. Some of the Collective's successes include helping launch a retail biodiesel fuel station in Berkeley, the creation of an ongoing monthly information session on biodiesel, the spawning of the San Francisco Biodiesel Co-op and the hosting of many biodiesel events including car shows, a film festival and various conferences. Daniel is currently the president.

Bavaria Solarpark - Germany

Currently the worlds largest solar project consisting of PowerTrackerTM ground mounted single axis trackers with photovoltaic modules mounted on them. The trackers follow the sun through the sky from east to west to maximize energy output by up to 30%. This project includes 57,600 individual solar modules mounted on 62 acres of land with a peak generating capacity of 10 Mega Watts.

California State University Hayward - Hayward, California

Four different buildings on this University Campus were retrofitted with photovoltaic modules using PowerGuardTM building integrated photovoltaic mounting technology. This technology protects the roof significantly extending it's life and also provides extra building insulation. The energy savings for the campus where significant with a total installed capacity of over 1 Mega Watt.

Greenpoint Manufacturing - Greenpoint, NY

Under a grant from NYSERDA, integrated a 60KW PowerGuardTM solar power plant with an experimental 100KWH Zinc-Bromine flow battery in order to implement peak shaving and store excess solar generation on low occupancy days. Designed and programmed an imbedded controller to dispatch the battery based on rate schedules, building loads, solar production and predicted weather patterns.

United States Navy - Coronado Island Navy Base, California

Largest federal solar electric installation in America. Photovoltaic modules are mounted on two shade structures totaling over a third of a mile in length in the naval base parking lot. These structures provide shaded parking for 400 vehicles while simultaneously generating 924KW of power at peak output.

City of San Francisco - Moscone Convention Center, San Francisco

The first project constructed under San Francisco's recently passed 100 million dollar solar bill. This project combined an energy efficiency retrofit with a 675KW PowerGuardTM installation to significantly reduce the energy consumption of San Francisco's flagship convention center.

Whole Foods Market - Berkeley, California

Solar tiles are electrically interconnected to Nextek(tm) power modules, which feed high quality DC power to the store's newly retrofitted advanced DC powered lighting system. This innovative solar electric lighting system maximizes the usable solar energy produced by the photovoltaic panels and increases the efficiency of the system by avoiding the need for conversion to AC power.

Sanyo North America - Headquarter Building, San Diego, California

This truly innovative project is the worlds first combination tracker and parking shade structure. This 150KW project consists of an elevated tracker that both provides shade for 32 parked vehicles and tracks the sun to maximize energy output.

Ste-Anne-de-Prescott Anaerobic Digester Committee

Arborus Consulting worked with this local committee from a small agricultural town in rural Ontario to prepare a feasibility study investigating the feasibility of building a manure anaerobic digester for their community that would generate electricity to be sold under the new Ontario standard offer program.
